5 Things You Can Do to Empower Other Women
Women who empower and support each other create wonderful things together. It’s in our nature to connect with others on a deep level, help each other, and work together towards common goals.
Unfortunately, society often teaches us to compete with each other and to constantly compare ourselves with other women. I encourage you to break away from this toxic behavior and to proactively work towards empowering other women. Research shows that women in particular benefit from collaboration over competition.
So, how can you empower other women?
Here are some examples of what you can do in your day-to-day life:
Make An Effort to Help Other Women
Go the extra mile to help women in need. If one of your friends or colleagues is dealing with a personal or professional problem, be proactive and offer to help. Sometimes, even small gestures can make a huge difference.
We’ve all been through difficult times throughout our lives, and having others be there for us has made things better. Therefore, do not hesitate to offer help whenever you have the chance. Most of the time, it costs nothing to be kind, to lend an ear, or to offer advice.
Also, keep in mind that the help you give should not be limited to your group of friends. Support women of color, disabled women, and women from marginalized categories. It is essential to promote equality for all women.
Stand Up for Others
Unfortunately, women often deal with discrimination, abuse, or other similar issues. When this happens, don’t ignore the situation. Stand up for other women, help them protect their rights, and report abusive behavior.
For example, these issues often happen in the workplace. In fact, statistics show that 42% of women have faced gender discrimination at work. If you notice that one of your colleagues is being abused by another colleague, or if you notice that promotions are made based on gender rather than achievements, make sure you immediately report this to human resources or encourage the victims to take this step.
Encourage Others
Be a cheerleader for your friends and colleagues and encourage them to pursue their goals.
Many women lack confidence, and this causes them to easily give up on their dreams, to settle for less than they deserve, or to think that they are unable to improve their lives. When this happens, some kind words can change everything.
Therefore, whenever you see potential in someone, make sure you let them know. Encourage them to take advantage of new opportunities, to apply for a better position at work, to pursue their hobbies, or anything else that could make their lives better.
Offer Compliments
Everyone loves compliments. Just think about how you felt the last time someone told you how valuable your work is, what a great vibe you have or how beautiful you looked on a certain day. Saying something nice costs you nothing but can have a huge impact on the person receiving the compliment.
Keep in mind that it is much easier to see qualities in someone else than to see them in yourself. That’s why, by offering compliments, you might help others discover qualities they weren’t even aware they had.
Show your appreciation for the women around you by complimenting them and helping them become aware of how great they are. Whenever you notice something good about someone, say it out loud. It is a great way to connect with other women, brighten their day, and contribute to boosting their confidence.
Lead by Example
The most powerful way to empower other women is to lead by example. Be the kind of woman that inspires others to become the best version of themselves.
Whether we are aware of this or not, the people we spend our time with have a significant influence on our growth. Furthermore, women, especially young ones, are always looking up to role models.
Therefore, try to become a good role model for those around you, whether we are talking about family members, friends, colleagues, or even strangers. Be kind and supportive, and encourage other women to work towards your goals. Learn how to love yourself, pursue your goals, and let your success inspire others.
Also, be careful about who you surround yourself with. Who you become is inevitably influenced by your entourage, so stay away from people who don’t appreciate you or try to bring you down. Instead, focus on building healthy relationships based on mutual respect and understanding.
