Last week we discussed the SMART way to set goals. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound. Setting SMART goals is the first step, and arguably the most important, to achieving your goals, no matter how ambitious.

This week we are going to give you some tips that will help boost your chances of successfully achieving your goals.

  • If you want to achieve any goal, you must be all in. A goal without a 100 percent commitment has very little chance of success.

  • Writing down your goals is very important as is tracking your progress. Consider getting a “goals journal” to keep everything in one place and as a means of keeping you motivated on your journey.

  • Large goals may seem impossible to achieve at first. The trick is to break your goals down into actionable steps. This is sometimes called “chunking down.” By doing this you create much smaller goals that are easier to achieve and each success will help keep you motivated and on track.

  • As you go through the process of achieving your goals, never lose sight of the big picture. We all get caught up in the daily grind and before you know it we have gone off course. Daily Affirmations or a Vision Board are great ways to help keep your eye on the prize.

  • The power of prayer is often overlooked. When we ask God to guide us when setting goals, he will give you the creativity, wisdom and abilities to achieve the greatness you set out for. It is Him who qualifies us to do the things we feel (Un)Qualified for, as Pastor Steven Furtick shares in this great resource. This book inspired me to step out of my own way.

  • When setting goals, remember that they are not set in stone. Your life situation can change in an instant so you need to be prepared to modify or change your goals as you go along.

  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help to accomplish your goals. Find a professional or someone you trust to help with any aspect of this process. Someone who is there to hold you to account is a great way to keep you motivated.

  • Celebrate every success, no matter how small. This will help build your confidence, keep you motivated and make it easier to push through to the finish line.
